Default New to Guild Wars

so like the title says im new to Guild Wars and for my first character i made a N/Me, but as ive sorted through the forums it seams that taking Me for a secondary isnt necessarily the best for PvE, which i do mostly since i mainly play WoW. Ive seen some topics talking about being able to change your proffesion and i was wondering when/how i could do this, and if i do change my proffesion will the skills i unlocked with my previous proffession still be unlocked for PvP?

also idk if this is the right forum to ask but whats the point in making a PvP only character if you could do the same PvP with PvE character? And what do you suggest be a good secondary proffesion for a necromancer for PvE?

When you get to the crystal desert, you finish and ascend, then you can come back anddo a quest to change profession, you should make a me/n

While a mesmer may not be a good primary profession for PVE, it is a very good secondary profession (especially for a necromancer) just go with it... the first char you make doesnt have to be the most efficient and like ^ said, you can always change your secondary later in the game.

Hope you enjoy GW!

Not the right forum but I'll answer it anyhow.

The best runes and items can be unlocked with faction. When you've unlocked the stuff you need, you can create a "perfect" pvp char. Although it's possible to play with a pve char in pvp, it requiers investing a lot of money into that char. The ammount of money you need to spend is different for every profession. Creating a perfect pve warrior for pvp is by far the most expensive.

Had a N/Me awhile back in PVE. No complaints -- worked great.

Wrong, N/Me is great for PvE. Your huge arsenal of hexes will allow you to handle almost any quest/mission with henchies, and when all else fails, you can go UW farming with 55 Monks. For all classes, Mo is generally the most favored secondary for PvE, but Me is an extremely very versatile for PvE, especially if you're a caster (which you are). Me/N for PVE, on the other hand...

You can change professions in the Crystal Desert after you've achieved Ascension and completed the four remaining professions' quests. This is about 2/3 through the main story, though (of course, you can reach there earlier if you want).

First of all, ANY skills you've learned (for example, Me skills) will STILL be learned EVEN if you changed your secondary to something else. As long as you change back to Me secondary, you get all your skills back, and you can do this as much as you want. Your new secondary, however, won't be able to get a lot of skills for free from many quests, so you'll end up spending quite a lot of money to gain those new skills.

Secondly, once you unlock a skill or item, it will remain unlocked for all PvP characters you create on your account.

You can re-create PvP characters over and over again...

1. They will always start at Lv20. If you recreate a PvE character, you got to level him/her to Lv20 in order to fight competitively with other Lv20 players unless you only want to fight in the Lv10-cap Ascalon City Arena and Lv15-cap Shiverpeak Arena.

2. Any skills your PvE characters unlocked, your PvP characters have access to them while creation. If you make a new PvE character and want all the Necro skills, you'll still have to do quests or pay to learn them--for a PvP character you can just select which ones you want specifically, and if you ever change your mind, you can just delete and remake. You can easily mix and match and change professions; even though you CAN change secondary profession in PvE, you'll have to pay to learn a lot of the skills of your new secondary.

3. They will always have access to max base weapons and max-stat armors for no fee. Once you've unlocked all the good runes and weapon mods, your PvP character can easily obtain the equivalent of some of the expensive and rare runes and weapon mods OVER and OVER again. If you have a Superior Vigor Rune on your current Necro, you will need to buy/find another one for your next PvE character, but ALL your PvP character will be able to use it for free if you've unlocked it.

I started with Nec/Mes. I loved it. As was said before, I soloed many places. You should have no problems.

Mesmer is lacking in self-heals, having only 1 I think. Necro has many self-heals thru Life Siphon and various vampiric skills. Enfeebling Blood will weaken the warriors. Shadow of Fear will make them attack slower. Add in some Domination from the Mesmer side and you can stop their skills.

You should have lots of fun with the N/Me combo.

First, I can't tell for you much because all above me had said what you need to know. Secondly, welcome to GW. Enjoy your playing as a N/Me.

Mesmer has 2 self healing, Ether Feast and Illusion of Weakness. I know it isnt much but their skills are deadly when you know how to use it correctly.

Self heal isn't the most important thing out there. A good monk + 1 self heal skill in your bar is more then enough, I generally don't even touch my selfheal and when I have to everything is going wrong anyway (for instance, the monk(s) are down and I try to keep agro from those rezzing the monks).

All my char's have Mesmer as secondary atm. My necro for Arcane Echo (+ Spitefull Spirit), my warrior for Phys. resistance/Ele. res/Distortion, my ele for Arcane Echo (untill I have glyph of renewal, then my secondary won't really matter unless using solo build, so it will prob go monk for rebirth or some other ressurect skill that can be re-used, rebirth doesnt sound the best for an ele, since it drains all energy, which can be loads).
